Robin Hood is on a mission to create an urban sanctuary, for nature and for people.
This involves building community to protect what is there, and introducing new measures to help nature and biodiversity to flourish. More species variety means a more robust natural environment with better resilience to the changes in our climate which are becoming all too apparent. It also involves connecting to other natural spaces around us to strengthen and support the natural environment over a much wider area.
To achieve this, we first survey and record what natural features and species are present, and share this data with other groups and organisations locally and around the country. As well as looking at what is there, we also look at what is not. What could, and maybe should, be there.
We also address issues which potentially undermine this work, such as the lost of habitat and pollution. We devise interventions which both solve the problems and gradually improve biodiversity and the environment. Many of these are routine, practical tasks such as clearing litter and planting for bees and butterflies. Others involve planning, research, work with specialist organisations and educational work with local groups and schools. All can be engaging, enjoyable, and uplifting, and often a lot of fun!
